National Grid Deployment on TSUBAME Super Computer

We have been deploying a Japan national grid with National Institute of Informatics (NII) and nine computer centers in universities (Hokkaido Univ., Tohoku Univ., Tsukuba Univ., Tokyo Univ., Nagoya Univ., Kyoto Univ. Osaka Univ., Kyushu Univ. and us) using NAREGI grid middleware, whose development directed by NII, for the grid infrastructure software. To federate our super computer TSUBAME with the grid, We customized NAREGI middleware to run on top of TSUBAME master scheduler and deployed it to accept jobs from NII NAREGI grid portal. Thus, NAREGI grid users can run their parallel applications on TSUBAME as usual TSUBAME jobs. Moreover the customized NAREGI middleware will help our management when the grid becomes production phase, because it gives us an integrated management of user and accounting of both supercomputer jobs and grid ones.

We plan to support the national grid on our next supercomputer ''TSUBAME 2.0'' to promote a production-level grid.
We also plan to deploy a data grid that can be federated with the grid using a storage server named RENKEI-POP with a support of a national e-science project in Japan.

This project is supported by NII.

NAREGI Middleware Health Check/Monitoring System

NAREGI grid middleware does not have any integrated means for helth checking and service minitoring of its related services, though it provides highly sophisticated grid functions, such as job and resource management, programming environments and data sharing. So we needed to check NAREGI service status by manually submitting jobs and checking their results, scanning database, logging in each service node to check process existence, etc. The ''Helth Checking System for NAREGI'', developed in GSIC, is a system that supports managing a NAREGI grid VO by automating the above operations, displaying the results in a web interface and notifying failures. It is almost in the same position of GStat in EGEE project and INCA in TeraGrid.

This project is supported by NII.

RENKEI Project - A National E-Science Project

GSIC pubs efforts on enabling e-Science, that is computationally intensive science that is carried out in highly distributed network environments, or science that uses immense data sets that require grid computing, by developing software and infrastructure in collaboration with NII, Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Tsukuba Univ., etc.
Our role in this project is to propose and construct a new e-science infrastructure environment and collaboration with users, that means promote e-science system software developed in this project to users after deploying them on our environment.

The details of this project is published on "REsources liNKage for E-scIence (RENKEI). Summary of our work is published on "Evaluation and Collaboration with Users.

This project is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
