In the workshop, engineering approaches contributing to land development with practices focusing on GIS (geographic information system) and the related applications using information technology are presented. Aiming at the establishment of a comprehensive database toward sustainable development in a platform of GIS, data from various fields including Agriculture, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering (soil properties, geography, underground water, amount of precipitation, chemical properties of top soils, spectral data of plants and soils) can be integrated to enhance quality control of agricultural products, monitoring of salinization damage, information of vegetation investigation and three-dimensional geographic information, and etc. This workshop is expected to be an opportunity to start collaborative studies related to the remote sensing technology and the use of GIS data for land development through discussions with various fields of researchers.
